So for the past week I have been feeling sorry for myself as I have felt under the weather with a stinking cold as well as one of my wisdom teeth coming through (ouchy!) so I want to say sorry for not posting anything.
For a long time I have thought that MAC needed to catch up with the eyeshadow palette game as they seemed to be the only brand who didn't offer a made up neutral palette with awesome colours at an affordable price. I absolutely love all of the Urban Decay Naked palettes and own all 3 but the only thing is with those is that they aren't full size shadows and I have hit pan on a few of them already. You've also got the high-street brand bringing out their own neutral palettes such as sleek and MUA these obviously being a little less on the quality/pigmentation but amazing on the price. You're roughly looking at about £5 for a palette from MUA and around £8 for a palette from Sleek.
So a little while back I popped into MAC with no intention to actually buy anything - you know what that's like & don't pretend you don't. You just pop into the counter, swatch some of the lipsticks and eyeshadows on the back of your hand but because its always so hot in there and so busy you end up leaving with nothing! Happens to me all the time :(
Anyways! I went in and surprisingly it wasn't actually that busy so I set myself upon buying something. I was having a browse when I came across a palette containing 15 neutral coloured, full size eyeshadows in a beautiful, sleek looking case. I had to check with the sales assistant that I was actually seeing this and not going crazy.
It was quite a tough decision deciding on which make-up school I wanted to attend as I wanted to make sure I got the most out of my time there as well as the location and the price - as you can imagine these courses don't come cheap!
I regret not going on to do a beauty course after I finished school at 16 as this would have been funded for free by the government and I wouldn't have had to worry about making a living for myself at this age. I could have fitted a part time job around my full time college course. Oh well! You live and you learn :)
I researched "make-up academies" and a lot of them came up. I finally narrowed it down between DFMA (Davina Fermi Make-up Academy) and another. The other course was offering the same course as DFMA but it was split over 10 weekends. Now for me, I found this to be a much bigger commitment as it would mean travelling to London every Saturday and back again probably costing me between £15-£25 a week. I know this doesn't seem much but when you average it up to over 10 weeks, it does get quite costly. This course also didn't offer me a make-up and brush kit. This was an additional price which for me, was quite off putting.
So in the end I decided to go with DFMA. At the point I didn't know how much it would cost me so I had to call their bookings team to find out availability and cost. I managed to grab the last place on the course in their Brighton location from Monday 22nd September to Friday 26th September (their other courses are held in London and Bournemouth. See http://www.makeupacademy.co.uk/ for more details). Fortunately for me, my parents had a place in Chichester which I stayed in for a week making my travel time around 50 minutes. I was very happy with this :)
The cost of the actual course was around £1300.
The course I chose to go on was a foundation course in fashion make-up. It was a Monday to Friday course from 11:30am till 4:30pm. Each day had a different learning task in which the aim was for you to feel confident to do at the end of the lesson.
Fall is quickly becoming one of my favourite seasons as I love love love that I can start wearing my darker lipsticks again.
In case you were wondering, winter is my favourite season as I celebrate Christmas - love Christmas :) who doesn't?!
My all time favourite lipstick is from Mac and its called "Hot Tahiti" and although this isn't necessarily considered to be a fall colour, I still think it works really well during the fall season. Its the type of lipstick in which you can build the colour. It starts off as a redish-burgundy colour which can easily turn into a deep berry colour with the right amount of application. I personally have green eyes so this lip colour really makes them pop! I suppose as it is a buildable lip colour it works well from day to night transition.
Hi everyone, and welcome to my new blog - The British beauty.
This is my first ever blog so you will have to forgive me for any mistakes. I will get better, I promise!
The reason why I have created this blog is because I love everything to do with make-up/beauty related things. I also have a thing for fashion, shoes and handbags but they fall a close second behind make-up and beauty. Who doesn't love to look and feel beautiful? :)
So what I was thinking was to create something where I could voice all my opinions and views whilst potentially inspiring or helping someone else. I will also be uploading images of looks I have done and giving you a low down on everything I used to create the look as well as reviewing new products I have recently bought to let you guys know if they are actually worth spending the money on. Don't worry! They won't all be high end brands which a lot of us can't afford on a regular - it will be a mixture of higher end and high street to hopefully keep you all entertained and engrossed.
I'll keep this short and sweet for now but I am so excited and looking forward to seeing all of your lovely comments and helping me start on this wonderful blog journey.
